Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
First, there was the rumor that it would become an Apple store. Then, a burlesque club. Now, there's word that the latest plan for the former Bank of America building at the corner of Market and Castro is a new SoulCycle location. The Castro Bubble reports that the indoor cycling chain has filed a Conditional Use Authorization application for the space with the SF Planning Department. The proposal is being reviewed, and there's no hearing date on the calendar yet.
Just because there's an application in the hopper doesn't mean that the deal is done, and even if the application is approved, you won't see Soul Castro this year. Keep in mind, we first told you about the upcoming SoMa location in April, and opening date for that studio has already been pushed to December. We're guessing that it will be October 2015 before anyone's queueing up for Soul Survivor in Harvey Milk Plaza.
Our source within SoulCycle was less specific regarding the month, but tells us that it will be late next year before anyone taps it back in the Castro. And, of course, adds that the company is "excited to join the Castro community in 2015."
