In San Francisco, you can find magazines about fashion, food, decor, yoga, and myriad other lifestyle interests. But if you're looking for a lifestyle magazine about pot culture? Well, in a few weeks, you'll be able to find that, too. San Francisco Media Company is launching a monthly mag called SF Evergreen on January 26th, and editor Chris Roberts tells KCBS that the goal is to be "an upper class, sort-of GQ or Vanity Fair for the marijuana scene in the Bay Area." (So like Cigar Aficionado, but for weed?)
Before you dismiss the idea as some kind of pot pipe dream, SFGate's Smell the Truth has a few statistics that might change your mind: The blog notes that cannabis brands have struggled for years to find advertising outlets, and the legal medical and recreational cannabis industry generated an estimated $2.3 billion in revenue in 2014. With revenue anticipated to grow to $10 billion by 2018, this is an industry that could support magazine advertising.
