Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
How long have we been waiting for the Rebecca Minkoff store on Fillmore to open? In our hearts, it's been years. In reality, it's closer to the five month mark. But the day that we longed for is finally here. The boutique is open for business right now.
As we previously reported, the eBay technology throughout the store is what makes this shop different. You can use the mirrored touch screens in the showroom and dressing rooms to order a coffee, find additional colors and sizes, and get assistance when you need it. Radio-frequency ID tags in the merchandise mean that staffers always know exactly what's in stock and what isn't. And the option to save a list of the things you saw in store gives you time to make a decision or build a shopping wish list. This is future of retail, and it's incredibly cool.
Can't wait to see all the new things in store? Then check out the boutique (and meet Rebecca in person) tonight, January 8th. Kate Ogata from The Fancy Pants Report is hosting a party at the shop (2124 Fillmore Street) from 6 to 8 pm. To get on the list, email events@rebeccaminkoff.com. There will be cocktails and snacks, and you can even enter a styling contest to win a $500 shopping spree at the store. Let the games begin.
