Pucker Up: Kosås Small-Batch Lipsticks Are Here

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Full disclosure: We are absolute lip-color freaks. Lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm, lip stain, lip tar...you name it, we wanna try it. So we're beyond plumped pumped to report that there's a new player on the scene: Kosås Cosmetics. There are many cool things to discuss about founder Sheena Yaitanes' brand-new collection, which came together after the LA-based entrepreneur figured out how to combine her biology and chemistry degree and her passion for painting. (This, plus her desire to create something better than the "inhuman-looking palette" of browns and nudes already out there.)

Yaitanes' effortless lipsticks come in four shades, each designed to flatter virtually all skin tones with high pigment, a barely-there feel and a natural look. Meet Rosewater (a just-bitten natural tone that's semi-transparent and low-shine), Undone (a modern nude that's a warm pinky-brown in a semi-matte, long-wearing finish), Fringe (an unfussy casual, semi-matte and buildable red with added moisture) and Darkroom (a deep and moody low-shine magenta that can go stain or full-on siren).

The collection, handmade in small batches, is free of parabens, preservatives and synthetic fragrances. So what do they contain? Key ingredients include the likes of green tea, rosehip, grape seed oil, sweet orange oil, and mango and shea butters.

Kosås' unofficial motto is beauty reflects nature. That's something we'll happily pout about.

Tubes are $24 each and can be purchased online.
