Layering for a San Francisco day is an art, but layering for freezing temperatures at New York Fashion Week is serious business. How exactly does a pretty young thing pull off effortless cool without succumbing to hypothermia?

As we learned from the exhaustive street style photos on our sister site, far too many Fashion Week regulars have abandoned tights and gloves —along with any sense of self-preservation— in the name of spring dressing. But San Francisco's style bloggers took a more practical approach to the semi-annual rites of fashion, bringing out their best coats and hats to combat the winter chill. Here now, twelve looks from six local bloggers who braved the cold to represent the Bay Area at New York Fashion Week.
