Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Clothes Contact has remained in business beyond its projected 2014 expiration date, but the end really is near for the decades-old vintage store. After 28 years in business, Mission Local reports the store will head to that great second-hand pile in the sky thanks to a rent hike. As we mentioned last summer, the landlord is raising the rent to $14,000 a month— an eye-popping sum for a store known for selling clothes by the pound.

Clothes Contact owner Werner Werwie announced in an email over the weekend, "We are starting a store wide, 1/2 off sale today. Until we close our doors for good." If the Valencia Street spot is one of your year-round costuming faves, it's time to make one last, great shopping expeditionfor old time's sake.
