Last week, news broke that Marc Jacobs International would discontinue Marc by Marc Jacobs as a stand-alone label, folding the diffusion line into the Marc Jacobs collection. Yes, that's a lot of Marcs in one sentence, but it means that the company is streamlining products under a single name at a range of prices. Sources within the company tell WWD that the point is to "unify all products with a clarity of voice and aesthetic, and ultimately, to expand the product offerings."
Curious about what those changes would mean for the Marc by Marc Jacobs location at the corner of Fillmore and Sacramento, we stopped by the store over the weekend. On Saturday, a staffer told us that the company has not made an official internal announcement yet, but the shop isn't going anywhere. Instead of a vacancy, it sounds like we'll have a fresh, new Marc Jacobs experience in the neighborhood.
