Jins Is Open for Business and It Has a Robot

The Japanese eyewear brand has officially expanded stateside

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

The Jins store that we've been talking about for ages is officially open, and it's huge. The location has 4,900 square feet of shopping space in a minimalist showroom in Union Square, with 1,200 different styles of eyeglass frames.

Even if you're not in the market for new frames, stop in to check out Kanna, the store's specs-making robot. Kanna makes prescription glasses on-site in just 30 minutes, (which is pretty badass because waiting sucks and it's a robot).

If you don't dig robots and you just can't with the whole 30-minute wait thing, you can order your glasses online and either have them shipped to you or pick them up in the store. Well-played, Jins. You've got a solution for everyone.
