Born and raised in Texas, Angela Holmes graduated from the University of Arizona with a BFA in dance. (Go Wildcats!) She teaches at least a dozen classes per week at Pilates ProWorks studio in Mill Valley, most of which fill up pretty quickly. Her classes are popular because they combine core, lengthening, strength training and cardio into one complete, high-energy, music-fueled workout. (Plus some classes are shorter to fit busy schedules.)
Did we mention no dance experience is necessary to get aligned with this instructor, whose favorite indulgence is a nap on the beach? Angela’s life outside the studio includes life inside other studios, teaching kids everything from how to plié to how to bust the latest hip-hop moves. Looking to hire somebody to lead a flash mob? Angela’s your girl.
In one sentence, tell us about yourself.
I am a fun-loving, down-to-earth and artistic person who loves life and strives to be the best version of myself every day.
What inspired you to become a trainer/fitness instructor?
I started practicing Pilates at the age of 16 while studying dance in New York. I quickly learned it was an excellent way for dancers to improve strength, balance and body awareness. I love the way Pilates makes me feel, and teaching was a perfect opportunity for me to share my passion.
What advice would you offer to someone who is just starting in your class?
My best advice is listen to your body and have fun. When your muscles start to fatigue, check your alignment and listen to the important cues that I give throughout class. Don’t be afraid of a challenge, and learn to love the burn!
Fun fact...go!
I am completely obsessed with seeing the world. I have visited 17 countries and 26 states in the U.S. Next on my bucket list is to hike the Inca Trail and see Machu Picchu.
If you weren’t in fitness, what would you be doing?
I would like to think I would be a backup dancer for a famous pop star like Beyoncé! When I am not teaching fitness, you'll find me in a dance studio teaching kids ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap and hip-hop. I cannot see myself doing anything else. I love it all!
What are your top three workout jams?
"I Don’t Like It, I Love It" by Flo Rida; "Scream & Shout" by will.i.am ft. Britney Spears; and "Empire State of Mind" by Jay Z and Alicia Keys.
