The genetically blessed Swede and former vampire was in town last night and hanging out at the Castro Theatre. Alexander Skarsgard was looking way more sparkly than ever— as he showed up in full-on drag with impeccable makeup and hair for the SF premiere of his new film Diary of a Teenage Girl.

Here he is in all his spangly glory, with his co-star Bel Powley (left) and director Marielle Heller. In the film, which debuts in the US on Friday, Skarsgard plays Kristen Wiig's character's BF who has an affair with her daughter, the teenage girl whose life (and diary) is the film's focus.

Let us be clear: the former True-Blood-er does not play a drag queen or cross-dresser of any sort in the SF-based flick. Although he didn't explain last night's gender-bender, it has been reported by the likes of E! Online that the red-carpet look was an homage to his co-star and our very own Joshua Granell (aka Peaches Christ), who plays a transvestite in the film. How cool, if that's the case.

Now, last question: Did anyone spy Alexa Chung in the audience?
