Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Take heart if your weekend agenda doesn't include rocking out to Billy Idol and St. Vincent—or ogling all the amazing fest fashions. There are many fun goings-on that don't entail trips to Golden Gate Park. Here's proof.
P.S. We got you covered with festival style snaps coming Monday.
FORT MASON, MARINA—Get your sweets on, or should we say in, by snacking on the most adorable macarons, mini cakes, donuts and other scrumptious edibles, courtesy of the Hello Kitty Cafe Truck. Sanrio's adorable wheels will be parked at Fort Mason on Saturday and Sunday (10:30am to 8pm) as part of the J-Pop Summit, a weekend celebration of all things Japanese pop culture. Think music, fashion, anime, food, film and art. There will also be events in Union Square, Japantown and the Castro.
W SAN FRANCISCO, SOMA—You may not be donning a floral crown this weekend but that doesn't mean you can't get a fabulous blowout. Sleek and chic, breezy and beachy, or sexy and voluminous, choose your style at the Bounce Blowdry Bar pop-up salon in a sweet suite at the W. The popular East Bay salon will be packing heat and (all the right hair products) through August 30th. Salon hours are Fridays 11am to 7pm, Saturdays 10am to 8pm, and Sundays 10am to 5pm. Call 510-451-1300 for an appointment. The W San Francisco is located at 181 Third Street.
