Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
This one really hurts: After 20 years, the Pac Heights location (2358 Fillmore Street) of the stalwart mini-chain Gimme Shoes has closed its doors. For shoe junkies, the Fillmore stroll just won't be the same.
The boutique, the retailer's second-born, sold it's last pair of understatedly hip boots a few days ago. If you happened to be walking by, you saw that even the fixtures were for sale. We asked a store associate what gives, and it turns out to be a simple case of just not pulling in enough business.
We're sad.
Of course, the only thing allowing us to keep it together is that the two Gimme shops at 381 and 416 Hayes Street don't appear to be going anywhere. Shoe porn, courtesy of Fiorentini + Baker, Chie Mihara, Robert Clergerie and more, lives on. And in other happy news, Gimme's 60 percent off sale is happening now in stores and online.
Hmm, we know just how to pay our respects (hint).
