No, this is not some crazy Project Runway-like stunt. Neiman Marcus has a scentsational reason for showcasing a gorgeous gown made of 300-plus live-cut orchids in its Union Square windows. The retailer is tipping its hat blooms to the Pacific Orchid Exposition set for this weekend at Fort Mason's Festival Pavilion.
From Friday to Sunday, February 26th to 28th, the country's largest orchid show, put on by the San Francisco Orchid Society, will feature over 150,000 orchids from around the globe. There will be tours, potting demos, cultivation tips, and, many orchids, known for their showy flowers, for sale. You can also bid on wine, art and trips as part of the silent auction, which takes place throughout the event.
Now what? Do a Neiman's walk-by for inspo, slip on your own favorite petals and prepare to smell the orchids.
Event hours are 9am to 6pm Friday and Saturday; and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Advance tickets are $14/$15 at the door. (Kids under 16 are free.) Fort Mason is located at 2 Marina Blvd.
