Shinola Opens Today In Jackson Square

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Finally, San Francisco gets it own taste of Detroit with the opening of Shinola, the Michigan-based maker of  watches, bikes, leather goods, etc. The store is located at 722 Montgomery Street in Jackson Square, one of our favorite and still under-the-radar shopping hoods (hello, Isabel Marant).

This is the retailer’s second store in NorCal—the Palo Alto location (261 Hamilton Ave) opened about six weeks ago. But today is all about San Francisco, and Shinola is really turning on the charm: Today and tomorrow, everyone's invited to a Grand Opening happy hour from 3pm to 5pm; light bites, local beer, and endless Motor City goodies are on the menu.

The launch party, however, takes place on Thursday, February 11th (6pm to 8pm). We strongly suggest at least a drive-by. Are you ready? Mr. Holmes Bakehouse x ShinolaCola Flavor cruffins and donuts will be served. (We had a chance to try the donut and, OMFG, it's seriously delish.) After the event and through February, you can score your own Detroit-meets-SF baked goods at Mr. Holmes (1042 Larkin Street).

Finally, if you're still searching for the perfect V-Day gift for your sweetie, hit up Shinola on Saturday, February 13th (noon to 5pm) to buy a customized journal courtesy of local illustrator Morgan Gore of Bild Creative.

We may not have officially met yet, Shinola, but we have a feeling we're going to become the best of friends.

Stay tuned for an in-depth look at the store coming soon.
